Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 22, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information PayMate ("we", "us") collects when you use the app, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep this deliberately simple: PayMate does not run advertising, does not use analytics or tracking cookies, and does not sell your data.

PayMate is an independent project, currently operated by an individual developer rather than a registered company. References to "we" and "us" throughout this policy mean that individual, acting in that capacity.

Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account we store your name, email address, and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic profile information (name, email) from Google.

Content you create. The receipts you upload and the items, splits, groups, and settlements you create in the app are stored so we can provide the service, and to improve and develop PayMate's own systems and future products.

Cookies

We use only a single essential cookie (or equivalent token) to keep you signed in. This is strictly necessary for the app to work. We do not use advertising, analytics, or cross-site tracking cookies, so there is nothing to opt out of.

How we use your information

We use your information solely to operate PayMate - to authenticate you, process the receipts you upload, calculate splits, and manage your groups and settlements. We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.

Third-party services

To read receipts, images you upload are processed by an AI-powered service to extract line items and totals. We also rely on standard infrastructure providers for hosting and database storage. These providers process data on our behalf to deliver the service and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes beyond what is needed to provide us their service.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your content at any time from within the app, and you can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.

Your rights

You may access, correct, or delete your personal information. To make a request, email us at db@paymate.dev.

Children

PayMate is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date above.
